Wandering around articles about Kabbalah, I stumbled upon one about the California based the Kabbalah Centre. Probably most notable for being associated with Madonna, Demi Moore, Britney Spears, and Donna Karan.
On their website they sell all sorts of study aids and "accessories" including a Red String that you can buy for $26.

Apparently they used to sell bottles of "healing water" water for hundreds of dollars to cancer patients.
Also, from wikipedia:
In October 2005, the head of the Kabbalah Centre in Tel Aviv, was arrested and charged with fraud for extorting $60,000 dollars from a woman dying of cancer. She was promised a cure if she gave the money. She died, leaving her family bankrupt.
