The SuperStore Anecdote

I work at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chilliwack, BC. I'm not proud of this, in fact I'm fairly embarrassed by it. But I am facing and exposing this shame to bring you this powerful public service announcement. Or maybe just a gross icky little true story.

A young mother was parading her larvae about the toy aisle. One of her daughters was riding in the less than glamourous seat in the buggy: the space at the bottom, beneath the handle bars. She dropped the cookie she was eating on the floor, then began to howl "my cookie!" Her mother took notice after a few seconds, picked up the cookie, said "uh, five second rule" and handed it back to her.

I didn't think much of it at the time, but I probably should have warned against that particular judgment call. You see, the store has rats (the big one is called "Fluffy" apparently). Plus there's Hanta virus information/warning bulletins all over the employee break areas, of course there's not any where the customers can see, but I don't think that means the virus has such limits.

I think the overall message of the story is that most of our generation is unready to raise children. Especially based on our weak grip on reality. That and giant evil corporations have complete disregard for the safety and well-being of their customers, but that's obvious.
